Current project:
Since April 2014, in the group of Prof. Dr. Marc F. Schetelig. The group develops and evaluates transgenic insects, such as mosquitos and fruit flies, for use in insect pest control programs. My work and responsibilities include Mosquito rearing, Mosquito germline transformation via embryonic microinjection, genetic crosses and screening for transgenics, molecular sequence analysis, inverse PCR, expression analysis with PCR, integration analysis, digital droplet PCR, creating cloning strategies, cloning of plasmid vectors, design of guideRNA for CRISPR-Cas9 experiments, cell culture of insect cell lines and experiments, biochemical techniques and immunohistochemistry in insects, passing practices to students and newcomers.
Professional experience:
Since October 2019 part-time study: Bachelor study "Molecular Biology", Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz.
From February 2011 to April 2014, as a technical assistant in the project SFB/Transregio 79 – „Materials for Tissue Regeneration in Systemically Diseased Bones“ in the Laboratory of Experimental Trauma Surgery, Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen. The work focused on developing suitable animal models and testing newly developed biomaterials. This work included animal surgeries and euthanasia, collecting tissue and bone samples, sectioning, histological, immunohistochemical, and enzyme staining, and their histomorphometric evaluation. Additionally, the development and validation of PCR and qPCR studies for gene expression analysis of markers of bone formation and resorption and evaluation of the results for the publications was a large part of the work.
From August 1987 to February 2011 as technical assistant in clinical and physiological research and studies at the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft, Clin. Res. Unit for Blood Coagulation, Giessen and Max-Planck-Institute for Clinical and Physiological Research, Bad Nauheim. This work involved cloning of plasmids, transformation, transfection, expression in cell lines, and evaluation of the recombinant coagulation factors as well as purification and characterization of proteins from plasma, preparation of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, screening of patients for genetic defects associated with thrombophilia and clinical diagnosis in the central laboratory of the Kerckhoff Clinic.
