WS: Prof. Dr. Ulrike Schröder: Interkulturelle Kommunikation in Interaktion

Trotz der in poststrukturalistischen Abhandlungen oft beschworenen hybriden und transkulturellen Effekte, welche die Globalisierung hervorgebracht hat, erleben Kommunikationsteilnehmer ihre Ankunft in einer neuen Kultur immer noch in vielerlei Hinsicht als  Erschütterung ihres Vertrauens „in die Gültigkeit [ihres] habituellen ‚Denkens-wie-üblich‘“, wie Alfred Schütz es formuliert hat. Die Erstellung polarer Kategorien wie ‚Individualismus‘ und ‚Kollektivismus‘ und die Anheftung solcher Etiketten an westliche und östliche Kulturen jedoch haben ihrerseits zur Metaphorisierung von Kulturen als Container mit homogenem Inhalt geführt, die keineswegs hilfreich ist, um der Komplexität dieser Erfahrung gerecht zu werden. Immer noch selten hingegen sind Untersuchungen, die sich anstelle einer extrakommunikativen Betrachtung des Phänomens ‚Alteritätserfahrung‘ den kommunikativen Handlungen der Teilnehmer selbst mit all ihren Mikrofacetten zuwenden. Wie dies insbesondere methodologisch geleistet werden kann, ist die Zielsetzung des Workshops. Dabei werden theoretische und praktische Bausteine der Konversationsanalyse, der Kognitiven und Kulturellen Linguistik sowie der Interkulturellen Pragmatik zusammengeführt. Auf der Grundlage von konkreten multimodalen Interaktionsanalysen lernen die Workshop-Teilnehmer zu analysieren, wie zum einen in interkultureller Kommunikation Sinn ko-konstruiert wird, und wie zum anderen in intrakultureller Kommunikation Alteritätserfahrungen (selbst-)reflexiv auf verbaler, prosodischer und körperlich-gestischer Ebene wechselseitig ausgehandelt und kategorisiert werden.

Die Kurssprache (Englisch / Deutsch) wird gemeinsam zu Beginn des Kurses mit allen Kursteilnehmer_innen vereinbart.

As often postulated in poststructuralist studies globalization has brought about hybrid and transcultural effects. However, communication participants still experience their arrival in a new culture in many ways as a shaking of their confidence "in the validity [of their] habitual 'thinking as usual'", as Alfred Schütz put it. The creation of polar categories such as 'individualism' and 'collectivism' and the attachment of such labels to Western and Eastern cultures, however, have in turn led to the metaphorization of cultures as containers with homogeneous content, which is by no means helpful to deal with the complexity of this experience. On the other hand, studies that focus on the communicative actions of the participants themselves with all their micro facets instead of looking at the phenomenon of 'experience of alterity' from an extra-communicative perspective are still rare. 

The objective of the workshop is how this can be achieved methodologically. Theoretical and practical modules of conversation analysis, cognitive and cultural linguistics as well as intercultural pragmatics are brought together. On the basis of concrete multimodal interaction analyses, workshop participants will learn to analyse how sense is co-constructed in intercultural communication, and how (self-)reflexively experiences of alterity are negotiated and categorised on verbal, prosodic and physical-gestural levels in intracultural communication.

The workshop language (English / German) will be decided among participants.
