Teaching philosophy
Inspiring students to the study of nature is the driving force behind my teaching interest. Teaching the principles of animal systematics and biodiversity, biogeography, and evolutionary biology is a focus of my teaching. In particular I am interested in balancing theoretical aspects and practical work and combining classroom, lab, and the field. I feel equally happy teaching basic systematic zoology for first-year students or conducting field courses or advanced seminars or journal clubs in biogeography, evolutionary or invasion biology for graduate students. I always propose an integrative approach to the study of organisms in their environment. Teaching careful planning of any study is as important as providing a sound background in the use of modern techniques and methodologies (e.g. biodiversity informatics, GIS, molecular analyses, modeling).
