RA 3 Reading Group: Reading The Accursed Share

"The sun gives without receiving." This is certainly the leitmotif of Georges Bataille's famous "The Accursed Share." Inspired by Marcel Mauss and radically rethinking his "Essai dur le don," Bataille was working on a theory of a general economy that is neglected by the limited conditions of the capitalistic economy - a point of critique that was later deconstructed by Derrida and still influences political and academic criticism of our global economic condition. Accompanied by additional reading we will engage in an in-depth reading of "The Accursed Share."
