GH3 - Silvoarable
GH3 - Silvoarable
The third agroforestry system on the Gladbacherhof was established in November 2022. The tree strips of this silvoarable system were planted according to keyline design principles in collaboration with agroforestry and keyline consultant Philipp Gerhardt (Baumfeldwirtschaft). The aim is to direct the water onto the arable land and reduce the risk of erosion.
A total of over 500 trees and shrubs were planted in six tree strips for fruit, timber and biomass utilization. As in GH1, in this system there are tree rows with only apple trees as well as complex rows with timber, fruit and biomass trees. In addition to planted valuable trees, the valuable trees were sown by tree seeds in two tree strips.
The tree strips are 4 meters wide and include the tree row and a clover-grass buffer zone. The 18-metre-wide strips of arable land are cultivated with the Gladbacherhof's 8-year crop rotation, which also includes a 2-year cultivation of alfalfa grass as animal feed.
