University professorship

A professorship is the career goal for many postdocs.

Direct appointment to a tenured professorship presupposes full appointability, while tenure-track professorships begin with a limited probationary period. In general, junior research group leaders do not yet offer a clear prospect of a professorship, but in individual disciplines they can contribute to appointability as the equivalent of a habilitation.

The tenure-track professorship is intended for early-career postdocs and allows for direct transition to a tenured professorship if the postdoc proves successful.

Strategic activity fields

Some topics are relevant to most appointment processes - you can shape these at an early stage in your academic career.

By evaluating professorship announcements, talking to experienced mentors from your research field, or participating in appointment committees, you can develop a sense of which fields of action are particularly important for your appointability.
