Description: In the course of this seminar, we will focus on sociolinguistic variation in English. We will study several methods for the analysis of phonological, morphological, syntactic and pragmatic variation and how sociolinguistic parameters such as ethnicity, age, gender or formality of the situation come into play. After acquiring the methodological framework, you will conduct your own research to apply your knowledge using authentic data. The findings of your little case studies will be handed in regularly.
