PART II

This second part of the MC series is meant:

  • to discuss a concept-based  approach and to help the participants to find and define their own position in a broader research landscape of theories, methods and research questions in the study of culture at the GCSC, in Germany and in an international context.

This MC thus will basically consist of a discussion of the relevance of concepts and methodological / theoretical approaches for the individual dissertation projects. It encourages working with “travelling concepts” (Mieke Bal) and with research ideas in formation to enrich the scope of the Research Areas.

Basic Requirement for Preparation:

- Revisiting one’s own dissertation proposal with a special and systematic focus on explicit or implicit (key) concepts in the individual project (short inputs or presentations are possible).

- Why does working in Research Areas make sense?

- Text: Mieke Bal: From Cultural Studies to Cultural Analysis, in: Kritische Berichte 2 (2007): 33-44.

// Dr. Doris Bachmann-Medick is Adjunct Senior Research Fellow am International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC).

Note: The course will be face-to-face, but if you have an urgent reason for not being able to attend, please contact Piera Mazzaglia (curriculum@gcsc.uni-giessen.de) well in advance so that we can arrange your attendance online.
