University Council
The University Council accompanies the JLU in its development, voices the professional world’s expectations of the university and promotes the use of scientific findings and artistic achievements. The University Council’s work is defined by § 48 of the Hessian University Law (HessHG).
The University Council has the right of initiative in fundamental matters. It makes recommendations on planning study programmes, evaluation methods and target agreements, on administration and fund management and also knowledge and technology transfer. Development planning is subject to the Council’s approval.
The University Council comments on the draft of the university constitution. It also comments on the President’s report, the budget plan, the introduction and termination of study programmes and on how the university is divided into faculties. The University Council participates in professorial appointment procedures and in the election and deselection of members of the Executive Board.
The JLU University Council comprises up to ten members from business and industry, the professions, science and art. The members are appointed by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art (HMWK) generally for four years. Half are nominated by the Executive Board with the approval of the Senate and half by the HMWK with the approval of the University. The members are not allowed to belong to JLU.
