Online Symposium "Lithium Metal Anodes and their Application in Batteries"
Lithium Metal Anodes and their Application in Batteries an international Online Symposium
February 9 & 10, 2022 each day 2:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (Central European Time)
Due to its high specific capacity and low electrochemical potential lithium metal constitutes an excellent anode material for future battery applications. Especially for all-solid-state batteries lithium metal anodes are a key requirement to meet the demand for high power and energy density. However, severe challenges hinder the successful implementation of lithium metal in many battery applications so far. This symposium aims to present work that seeks a deeper understanding of the current challenges for lithium metal application in batteries as well as strategies to overcome them. The presented topics are the reactivity of lithium metal towards gases and electrolytes, including (controlled) solid electrolyte interphase formation, and other challenges for lithium metal anode application such as inhomogeneous lithium electrodeposition/‑dissolution. Modifications of the lithium surface and lithium metal processing, as well as alternative lithium anode designs, will be presented as countermeasures.
