Marc F. Schetelig is a researcher with expertise in molecular biocontrol and gene editing. He is interested in developing environmentally friendly and sustainable methods for controlling invasive fruit pests such as Drosophila suzukii and the Mediterranean fruit fly, as well as mosquito species such as Aedes aegypti. His research aims to improve the sterile insect technique (SIT) through the development of environmentally friendly sex separation and male sterility technologies, as well as new genetic approaches. He is also focused on the risk assessment of transgenic insects and the development of molecular biological systems for the stabilization of transgenes and the unbiased comparison of different technologies, including CRISPR-Cas gene editing.
