Topic

During the so-called "corona semesters", the courses were primarily conducted virtually. With the return to face-to-face teaching, not everything will be the same as before: some courses offer participants the option of either being present on site or participating online. Such courses fall under the concept of hybrid teaching. This is a concept that, according to Gabi Reinmann, is based on both face-to-face and online teaching at the same time (see Reimann, 2021).

Tutorials at JLU will also be able to take place in the hybrid teaching format. This workshop aims to prepare our tutors for the teaching of the future. The aim is to introduce them to the technical and didactic challenges that hybrid teaching brings with it. In the first part, we will discuss the different potentials of this teaching format as well as practical strategies that are helpful in transforming traditional teaching methods into this new format. In the second part, we will go into practice, i.e. tutors will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned by directly testing the equipment and technology for hybrid teaching formats.

Learning Goals

  • Know what the term “hybrid teaching” means and its basics;
  • Recognise the potentials of using synchronous hybrid teaching for their own tutorial;
  • Be familiar with difficulties that hybrid teaching entails;
  • Know the requirements related to specific software and hardware, and observe them in their own teaching practice;
  • Be able to competently apply strategies that are helpful for effective teaching in the synchronous hybrid format;
  • Feel confident, as a young lecturer, in hybrid formats.
