In search of the smallest known particles... To complete the search, the world's largest scale has been set up at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) - the KATRIN experiment. Researchers from all over the world are trying to discover the mass of neutrinos. Their mass is one of the few remaining mysteries in astrophysics and particle physics. KATRIN (Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino Experiment) is a 40-metre-long experiment to determine the mass of neutrinos. As the setup and the measuring process are quite complex, NaWik (National Institute for Science Communication) tries to explain the principle and thus the experiment to test persons by means of films, among other things. But a linear film is often not enough. The development of a virtual reality tour that takes the user into the real environment, where otherwise only researchers are present, enables a new learning behaviour. We also give the user the opportunity to look inside KATRIN with a virtual tablet and explore how the particles move there.
