Student Card / Student ID
I have enrolled at JLU and want to know what happens now. When will I receive my student ID? What do I have to do in case of loss or defect? What do I have to consider when changing my name? - You will find answers to these questions on this page.
The JLU student ID card is multifunctional and identifies you as a JLU student. It can also be used in the following areas:
- Library card for borrowing literature from the JLU library system
- Key for access to some areas of the JLU and some halls of residence of the Studierendenwerk
- Cashless payment system in the canteens and cafeterias
- Cashless payment system at public printers and photocopiers
From winter semester 2024/25, the student ID card will no longer be valid as a semester ticket . Information on the digital Deutschlandticket as a semester ticket can be found on the JLU Giessen AStA website .
You can find more information about the student ID card here .
If you have registered and already activated your account, the following applies to you: You will receive an e-mail with a request to upload your photo for the student ID as well as to confirm a shipping address. Your student ID will then be produced and sent to you by post. Please note that student cards cannot be sent abroad, so please provide a German shipping address.
If you are only moving to Germany for your studies, it is only possible to send the student card once you can receive mail at your German address. In this case, please inform JLU’s registrar’s office of your address by e-mail .
Please report the loss or defect of the student card immediately to the registrar’s office by e-mail (stud-sekretariat@admin.uni-giessen.de) using your university e-mail address and stating your registration number. The team will clarify the further procedure with you so that you can receive a new card as soon as possible. Please note that in some cases (e.g. in case of loss) the replacement of the student card is subject to a fee.
You can submit applications for changes to personal data in the GUDE portal . Please follow the instructions provided with the respective applications. The Registrar's Office will process your application online and information will be sent to you in the portal and, if necessary, by e-mail.
You will then automatically receive an e-mail asking you to upload your photo as well as confirm a shipping address (since photos are not stored for data protection reasons, a new one is required). Your student card / student ID will then be produced and sent to you by post.
