Language Requirements
Minor subjects from Master's degree programmes
Minor subjects English Language, Literatures & Cultures and English Linguistics
The Master's minor in English Language, Literatures & Cultures and the Master's minor in English Linguistics require English language skills proven by
a) level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) by means of one of the following tests
- Cambridge Certificate - First Certificate in English (FCE)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL iBT
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
UNIcert
or
b) the acquisition of the local university entrance qualification in one of the following countries: Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, South Africa or
c) Completion of an English-language Bachelor's degree programme in one of the following countries: Australia, Germany, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, USA, United Kingdom, South Africa
Date of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme
Minor in Protestant Theology
The Master's minor in Protestant Theology requires knowledge of Latin.
Required level: Latinum or Latin I and II
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme
Minor in History
The Master's minor in History requires knowledge of English and another foreign language.
Required level: B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme
Minor subject Gallo-Roman Studies/French
The Master's minor in Gallo-Romance Studies/French requires knowledge of French, proven by
a) a language certificate at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or
b) a French examination passed at a university which demonstrably fulfils level
level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is not older than two years or
c) other suitable proof of knowledge of Spanish or French at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or
d) by successfully completing the B.A. Romance Studies programme at JLU.
Minor in Greek Studies
The Master's minor in Greek Studies requires knowledge of Greek and Latin.
Required level: Latinum or Latin I and II as well as Graecum or Greek I and II
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme
Minor subject Hispanic Studies/Spanish
The Master's minor in Hispanic Studies/Spanish requires knowledge of Spanish, proven by
a) a language certificate at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or
b) a Spanish examination passed at a university which verifiably reaches level
level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is not older than two years or
c) other suitable proof of knowledge of Spanish or French at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or
d) by successfully completing the B.A. Romance Studies programme at JLU.
Minor in Catholic Theology
The Master's minor in Catholic Theology requires knowledge of Latin and Biblical Greek.
Required level: Latinum or Latin I and II and Biblical Greek
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme
Minor in Art History
The Master's minor in Art History requires knowledge of two foreign languages.
Required level: in one foreign language B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), in the second foreign language A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the degree programme
Minor in Art Education
The Master's minor in Art Education requires knowledge of two foreign languages.
Required level: B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of studies
Proof of foreign language skills for each language is provided by the school leaving certificate or an equivalent higher education entrance qualification certificate or a school certificate confirming the scope and the last result (grade at least "sufficient") of the school lessons in the foreign language over at least 340 lessons. If proof of two foreign languages is not provided at the time of enrolment for the subject of Art Education, enrolment is subject to proof of complete language proficiency by the end of the 2nd semester at the latest in accordance with Section 63 (4) sentence 3 HHG.
Minor in Latin Studies
The Master's minor in Greek Studies requires knowledge of Greek and Latin.
Required level: Latinum or Latin I and II as well as Graecum or Greek I and II
Time of proof: upon enrolment, i.e. before the start of the programme

The minor subject Greek Studies requires knowledge of Greek.
Required level: Graecum or Greek I and II
Time of proof: after the second semester
Minor in Latin Studies
The minor subject Latin Studies requires knowledge of Latin.
Required level: Latinum or Latin I and II
