Liberal Arts, these are future topics such as sustainability, digitalisation and societal change, which are taught and shaped by you within the framework of a broad course of study geared to your interests.
The undergraduate Bachelor's degree programme combines the central foundations for scientific work with interdisciplinary thematic focuses on current challenges facing human societies in the form of so-called subject tracks. Composition of the Study Programme

-
The core curriculum in the first two semesters provides the basics of scientific work, but also allows you to try out subjects according to your individual interests. By subsequently choosing an interdisciplinary subject track on future topics, further studies can be profiled according to your individual and subject-specific inclinations and career aspirations. The competences developed in the chosen focus are then incorporated into the Bachelor's thesis.
1. Orientation year as a flexible start with Micro Degree
You start flexibly with an orientation year, which you can complete with a micro degree. This first year prepares you for the degree programme and you get to know the subject tracks.
When the programme begins in the winter semester 2023/24, the first cohort will be intensively involved in the further development of the programme. The first degree programme that grows with you!
ㅤ
2. Subject Tracks
In the course of the orientation, you decide on one of these tracks and thus also on a humanities/cultural/social science focus in the Bachelor of Arts or a technical/scientific focus in the Bachelor of Science. In the winter semester 2024/25, the first students complete the orientation year. By then, a number of other tracks will be available in addition to the following subject tracks. Now we can already offer you the following options:
- Formations of Knowledge (B.A.)
- Sustainable Development and Digital Transformation (B.Sc.)
You will be supported in your studies by the JLU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences! Your future qualification: Understand the major challenges from the perspective of at least two subjects, reflect on them and be able to develop ideas for solutions with others.
ㅤ
3. Degree
In addition to a micro-degree after the orientation year, you will earn a Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science after six semesters, depending on the subject track.
Due to the practical components and the interdisciplinary orientation of the subject tracks, you are well equipped for a career in NGOs, government organisations, future-oriented companies. Alternatively, your specialist training in the subject track also opens up the possibility for you to start your Master's degree in a scientific and subject-related manner.
