Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Martin Kramer has been a member of the JLU Executive Board since November 22, 2021. He is responsible for research and the promotion of young scientists.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. (Bursa, Toruń, Stara Zagora) Martin Kramer has been Head of the Clinic for Small Animals (Surgery) at JLU's Faculty 10 - Veterinary Medicine since 2003 and has also been Dean of the Faculty since 2010. After his licensing as a veterinarian, Prof. Dr. Kramer began working at the then Surgical Veterinary Clinic in Giessen in January 1987, where he received his doctorate in 1992. In 1994 he became a specialist veterinarian in surgery, in 2000 in X-ray diagnostics and other imaging procedures, and in 2007 and 2009 respectively in small and pet animals & small animal surgery. In 1998, he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (Dip. ECVDI). At the end of 1999, Prof. Dr. Kramer habilitated in the fields of small animal surgery and imaging techniques. After a stay in Knoxville/Tennessee, USA, at the end of 2000 Prof. Dr. Kramer first took on a guest professorship in Ghent, Belgium, before accepting the professorship for soft tissue surgery in small animals there in October 2001. In September 2003, Prof. Dr. Kramer returned to Giessen and was appointed professor of small animal surgery at JLU. Shortly afterwards, he became managing director of the Clinic for Small Animals and soon of the newly founded Clinic for Veterinary Medicine at JLU. In addition to numerous publications and the writing of veterinary textbooks as well as the supervision of many doctoral students, Prof. Dr. Kramer has been involved in university and professional politics, for example in the German Veterinary Medical Association since 2004 (since 2015 as a BTK Executive Committee member responsible for research, training and industry). Prof. Dr. Kramer has also been President of the German Veterinary Medical Society (DVG) since 2015. Prof. Dr. Kramer has received several awards for his scientific merits and his extraordinary professional commitment: In 2011, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Uludag University in Bursa, Turkey. In 2019, Prof. Dr. Kramer received the Nieberle Plaque from the Baden-Württemberg State Veterinary Chamber for his achievements in the field of imaging techniques. In his research work at the university's small animal hospital, Prof. Dr. Kramer deals, among other things, with the informative value of imaging diagnostics in diseased animals using modern cross-sectional imaging methods before during and/or after surgical interventions. The diagnostic and often new therapeutic or surgical approaches are also evaluated with regard to whether they could serve as models for human diseases. |
