Coaching & Counselling
Career Counselling
We provide counselling concerning all topics related to the postdoc phase, such as career and funding options, or career strategies. We are also pleased to assist you with legal, organizational or contractual issues. Our counselling is confidential and is based exclusively on your questions and career plans - whether you pursue an academic or non-academic career. We will also be happy to counsel you during a period of six months after the end of your contract.
Consultations are possible both online and in person. You can arrange a counselling appointment by telephone or e-mail via pcmo@admin.uni-giessen.de
Career Counselling
Central aspects of the consultation can be:
- a self-assessment: the identification and analysis of one's own competencies, professional and personal values and ideal professional conditions in order to identify matching professional future scenarios,
- career orientation: preparing career decisions and exploring career options,
- the proactive career management in your everyday life.
Leadership Counselling
Jessica Grazi (Head of Human Resources Development at JLU) advises you on your leadership behavior and on cooperation in research projects with students or (peer) academic staff. The session will be confidential and tailored for you individually and to your questions or together with your team, if required.

Coaching
We offer two continuous coaching programs - Grant Writing Coaching and Digital Self-Presentation (see below) - for which you may book individual coaching slots at any time.
Career coaching with external coaches usually comprises 5 - 6 sessions of 60 minutes each. There are no costs for you. These are covered entirely by PCMO.
We have added two new digital formats to our range of individual coaching sessions:
Present yourself well - in digital meetings, application processes or conferences
Digital meetings have become part of our everday life. Just as in analogue communication, how we appear to our counterparts depends to a large extent on non-verbal signals. In addition, the situation in front of the screen brings its own unique challenges. We offer you individual coaching in which you can improve your digital self-presentation on various levels with a trainer, and subsequently present yourself and your topics more confidently and vividly. The coaching includes a short digital preliminary meeting, the recording of a digital conversation situation, analysis and the practice of changes (approx. 2 - 3 hours).
English Language Coaching
Are you in the process of writing a grant proposal? If so, you probably know how challenging this task can be and would probably appreciate some assistance in writing it. In order to provide focused support in this process, individual writing consultation sessions are now being offered, so that you can get some specific, tailored input on the language used in your proposal. These sessions will run for about half an hour and can be scheduled at any time.
