Child Benefits
In Germany, it is possible to claim child benefit. This is paid at least until the child reaches the age of 18 and as of January 1, 2023, it amounts to €250 per month for each eligible child.
Foreign parents can apply as well. You are usually eligible if you and your children live in Germany and provided that you have a residence permit.
Child benefits are paid out by the Familienkasse. If you work in the public service, child benefits will be paid by the same institution paying your salary. You must apply for child benefits in writing.

Parental Allowance
You can apply for parental allowance in Germany during the first 12 - 14 months after the birth of your child.
Parental allowance is paid in case parents do not work full time in the first months after the birth of the child in order to care for the baby. The exact amounts are calculated on the basis of the last net income before the birth; parental allowance is intended to cover up to 67% of the last net income.
You can only apply for parental allowance in writing.
Foreign parents can also be eligible.
