Description: | This course is an introductory seminar series on the psychology of visual perception for first year Bachelors students, which is designed to complement the introductory lecture series. The entire course is presented in English although some of the readings are in German. Each week 2-3 students present one paper for 15-20 minutes—depending on the number of participants, each student presents 1 or 2 times during the course. After each presentation there is a question and answer and discussion section. Each student can also optionally receive a 30-minute tutorial with me a few days before their presentation. For 5 Credit Points students also complete a ca. 2000-word essay on the same topic as their presentation. Topics typically include: Visual Illusions; Retina and Spatial Frequency Analysis; Lightness, Brightness and Afterimages; Illusory Contours; Colour; Motion; Shading and Transparency; Faces and Objects; Gestalt Perception; Computer Vision and Scenes; Art; Attention and Consciousness. |
