Section II
Slavia and Turcia – where Asia and Europe converge
The Giessen Centre for Eastern European Studies has also established a research area focusing on the relations between Slavic and Turkic cultures and societies. This section explores historical and contemporary cultural and linguistic contacts between Slavic and Turkic population groups within a broad geographical space, ranging from the former Ottoman territories in the Balkans, through the Crimea and the Aralo-Caspian region, to the Tartar-influenced Volga region. This field of research is connected with a wide range of other disciplines (such as Political Science and History among others).
