How to get to the GiZo
Journey Description
The Giessen Center for Eastern European Studies is situated on the university campus of the Justus-Liebig University Giessen: Philosophikum I, House E.

Enter your starting location in the top box and ‘Otto-Behaghel-Str.
10, 35394 Giessen’ as your destination, and then select ‘Route’.
Approaching on the A5
from the south:
Head along the A5 towards Kassel.
At the ‘Gambacher Kreuz’ junction, leave the A5 by following signs for Giessen and turn into the
A45. Turn off onto the A485 towards Giessen.
At the ‘Giessen-Schiffenberger Tal’ junction, leave the A485 and follow signs
for ‘Universität’ onto the Schiffenberger Weg (L3131). On the Schiffenberger
Weg, turn right at Burger King into Rathenaustraße. Follow this street until
you turn left into Otto-Behaghel-Straße.
from the north
Head along the A5 towards Frankfurt and Giessen. At the
‘Reiskirchener Dreieck’ junction, change onto the A480 towards Dortmund and Giessen. At the ‘Giessener Nordkreuz’
junction, take the A485 towards Giessen Stadtmitte. Leave the A485 at the
‘Schiffenberger Tal’ junction and head along the Schiffenberger Weg (L3131). At
Burger King, turn right into Rathenaustraße and then left into
Otto-Behaghel-Straße.

From Giessen main station two bus lines go directly to Philosophikum I
1st alternative
The bus stops for local buses are situated c.50 meters to the right as you stand in front of the railway station. Take the number 10 bus (usually leaves every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour) to its terminus, ‘Rathenaustraße’. This stop lies between the ‘Philosophikum I’ and ‘Philosophikum II’ parts of the university campus.
Crossing the road at the crosswalk, you will see Philosophikum I in front of you. Follow the footpath, passing the university library on your right, and you will see the automatic doors of the main entrance to Building A (‘Haus A’) straight behind Gerhard Marcks’ statue of the ‘Whinnying Stallion’. Cross the entrance hall, turn left at the cafeteria and follow the signs to “Haus E”. The GiZo is situated on the second floor.
2nd alternative
Alternatively, you can take the number 2 bus to Eichendorffring. The stop Graudenzer Straße is approximately 5 minutes by foot from Philosophikum I. Only a few meters behind the bus stop, Graudenzer Straße leads directly to the back entrance of the university library. At the end of the street, please follow the small footpath around the university library to the main entrance of Haus A. Cross the entrance hall, turn left at the cafeteria and follow the signs to “Haus E”. The GiZo is situated on the second floor.
Coming from city center, you can also take these buses,
number 10 stops at Johanneskirche and Berliner Platz. Number 2 stops at Marktplatz (pedestrian area) and Berliner Platz. At these last two stops, there are 3 additional buses (800-802) that go to Rathenaustraße (directly on the campus).
