International Partners
The Giessen Center for Eastern European Studies benefits from the University of Giessen's extensive network of partner universities. We have strong relationships with partner organizations throughout Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The flourishing partnerships of the Justus Liebig University with the University of Łódź, Poland (since 1978), Kazan Federal University, Russia (since 1989) and National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ukraine (since 2022) are of great importance to the GiZo. These are university partnerships in the truest sense - with all partners being familiar with interdisciplinary collaboration.
Additionally, we have cooperation agreements with the European Humanities University Vilnius (Lithuania), St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (Russia), Ablai Khan University (Kazakhstan), Belarusian State University (Belarus), Charles University in Prague (Czechia), University of Zagreb (Croatia).
Further contracts of cooperation, based on existing contacts, are being established and developed. These include for example the German Historical Institute in Warsaw, the Center for Eastern Europe at Warsaw University, the Andrassy University of Budapest, the Center for German and European Studies Sofia, and the universities in Gödöllö, Hungary; Iasi, Romania; Bucharest, Romania; Izmir, Turkey; Bursa, Turkey; Olsztyn, Poland; and Tblisi, Georgia.
