Applicants need to hold a university degree in literary or cultural studies with a G.P.A. well above average (international degrees must be equivalent to German 'Diplom', 'Magister', 'Master' or 'Erstes Staatsexamen' degrees).

Any postgraduate researcher in the faculty of Language, Literature and Culture may apply for membership in the IPP, as long as their research project is relevant to the IPP profile.

The programme accommodates the departments of English and American Studies, German Studies, Romance Studies, Slavic Studies, Comparative Literary Studies, and Theatre Studies, among others. If your main subject does not appear on this list, please contact the IPP team (ipp).

Admission is granted according to the academic record of the candidate, as well as the academic quality of their dissertation project and its compatibility with the IPP research profile. Furthermore, applicants must document proficiency in either German or English. You will find more information in the FAQs.

Members will be expected to have their first supervisor at Justus Liebig University. Usually, the supervisor is chosen shortly before or after admission.

Members will also need to register as postgraduate researchers at Justus Liebig University. Please note that, apart from an enrolment fee of approximately €270 per semester, there are no tuition fees at the JLU. The enrolment fee contains a number of benefits, such as free public transportation within the region.
