“Transdisciplinarity –
Concepts and Integrative Methods for Participatory Research”

In contrast to conventional (disciplinary) projects, inter- and transdisciplinary projects need procedures to set different types of knowledge in relation. Approaches and best practices suitable for integrating knowledge from different disciplines and societal realms are presented.

The goal of this Masterclass is to give young researchers from different disciplines an idea of the chances and challenges of a transdisciplinary approach to research in the context of real world / societal problems. This perspective can enhance understanding of the added value of an integrative research project and improve planning of own projects. The ISOE model of a reflexive transdisciplinary research process will be shown and explained as well as a number of methods supporting integrative research, both aiming at blurring the boundaries between science, policy, economy and civil society in research.
