Are you a new member at the GGK/GCSC and are currently looking for opportunities to finance your doctoral studies? This workshop will address three most widespread ways to finance your PhD: a (part-time) position at the university, membership in a post-graduate programme funded by the German Research Foundation (and distributed across the country) and a stipend from an institute or foundation. The first part of the workshop will outline the pros and cons of these three formats of funding with regards to individual backgrounds and profiles of the workshop participants. The second interactive part will focus on stipends and scholarships, covering such topics as an overview of stipends and where to find them, general application procedures and questions concerning the core of every application — your project exposé (proposal). In the third part, it will be possible to discuss the best potential funding opportunities and project proposal details for you personally during an individual consultation session.

Sie sind ein neues Mitglied im GGK/GCSC und suchen nach Möglichkeiten, Ihre Promotionszeit finanziell abzudecken? In diesem Workshop werden die drei gängigen Varianten präsentiert, die Ihnen dabei helfen könnten: eine (halbe) Mitarbeiter_innenstelle an der Universität, die Mitgliedschaft in einem (bundesweit verstreuten) DFG-geförderten Graduiertenkolleg und ein Stipendium über eine Stiftung. Im ersten Teil des Workshops werden die Vor- und Nachteile jeder dieser Wege angesichts der individuellen Hintergründe und Profile der Workshop Teilnehmer_innen diskutiert. Der zweite interaktive Teil konzentriert sich auf Stipendien, dabei werden solche Schwerpunkte wie Stipendienmarkt als auch Datenbanken, verbreitete Bewerbungsprozedere und allgemeine Fragen zum Kernpunkt der Stipendienbewerbungen, Ihr Dissertationsexposé, besprochen. Im dritten Teil werden Sie eine Möglichkeit haben, im Rahmen einer individuellen Beratung konkrete Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten, passende Stipendien und Ihr Exposé zu besprechen.

// Daria Steiner (GCSC) is a PhD student at Justus Liebig University in Giessen where she is also a research assistant and coordinator of collaborative research groups at the Giessen Graduate Centre for Humanities (GGK). Before transferring to JLU, she started writing her dissertation at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz where was awarded with a PhD-stipend from Sibylle Kalkhof-Rose Foundation. Daria has been a member of the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture in Giessen since 2016. She is also a member of the international PhD programmes in literary and cultural studies, PhDnet and IPP. Daria works on representations of the Great Irish Hunger in contemporary historical fiction with a specific focus on Joseph O’Connor.
