MK 019 - Industrial Internship for Agrobiotechnology
Gaining skills and experience to tackle the challenges of the future. On this page you find information about the compulsory internship module in our master degree programme Agrobiotechnoloy.
The following description applies only to students who started before the Winter Semester 2022/23:
The international "Agrobiotechnology" Master's degree program contains a compulsory industrial internship that enables our students to gain an initial insight into the various areas of professional activity which they hope to pursue in the future. The internship also enables them to gain initial hands-on professional experience and establish contacts with potential employers. The internship must be conducted outside JLU and can take place in various areas such as the chemical industry, an agricultural corporation, or the foodstuffs industry. The variety of industry contacts that our faculty possesses allow us to provide expert support to students seeking an internship.

Application and Execution
Our faculty's member of staff responsible for internships is Prof. Dr. Patrick Schäfer. He advises our students on internships and helps to decide whether the internship aimed at is likely to be of benefil for a given course of study. Students are expected to find out for themselves how to locate and apply for an internship in a company. However, a provisional list containing several companies that offer internship places is available from the office of the Institute of Phytpathology (IFZ room B336).
The minimum duration of the internship is 8 weeks and is to be accomplished within the lecture-free period between the 3rd and 4th semesters. Students may, however, choose a different time period for their internship.

Evaluation
The internship is worth 12 credit points. In order for the internship to be deemed successful, evidence must be produced regarding both work done and skills gathered during the internship. This evidence is to be provided in the form of a certificate from the internship’s supervisor stating the time, the scientific topic (e.g. methods, strategies employed), and the quality of the student’s performance during the internship. A final examination with the faculty's member of staff responsible for internships (presently Prof. Dr. Patrick Schäfer) at the end of the internship is compulsory. If a student wishes to produce his/her Master's thesis at a company, this period can not be credited as internship.
