Oceanic islands
Island biogeographical topics are currently studied in the Indo-Australian Archipelago, particularly the region called Wallacea, and the Western Indian Ocean islands (e.g. Mascarenes). We are interested in the differential roles of dispersal vs. vicariance in shaping distribution patterns of brackishwater and limnic taxa in these oceanic islands that are considered to represent global biodiversity hotspots. These projects involve interdisciplinary research with geologist because only a well-understood geological history of the islands concerned will eventually allow general conclusions regarding biotic evolution.
