Conservation biology
Our studies of often highly endangered freshwater faunas also contribute to a better understanding of anthropogenic impacts on the often fragile ecosystems of e.g. but not exclusively ancient lakes which already are often in grave danger of losing their high degrees of biodiversity. Assessments of the conservation status of particular species are carried out during extensive field studies in the general study areas. Our group is involved in red-listing of species (IUCN). We are interested in transferring basic knowledge of freshwater faunas and processes in the respective ecosystem to the relevant conservation plans.
