We are a very international group and besides research we also conduct teaching in foreign countries, specifically in Africa. Here, we want to build capacities that are so urgently needed in all fields related to freshwater research and resource management. Our teaching is currently focused on Uganda, where I took on responsibilities for teaching as as a permanent "Visiting Professor" at the Biology Department of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). Various bachelor, masters and PhD students have been and are currently supervised. A strong teaching cooparation involving capacity building and supervision exists also with the University of Kisangani (Democratic Republic of Congo). Other cooperations exist between our group and the Catholic University Bukavu (DRC), The University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and the University of Marrakesch (Morocco). Funding is regularly provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Volkswagen Foundation. The latter generously funded our international Field schools in Africa.
