Environmental Education

Bats are very interesting for the public and their unique way of life leads to a high appeal among all age groups. Thus, this species is predestined to illustrate ecological relationships in schools. The development of new ways for teaching science in and outside the school is an important research approach of the Mammalian Ecology Group.
Ecological relationships between occurrence or habits of animals and the various elements of the landscape features (forests, waters, etc.) are comparatively studied in the framework of Bachelor's and Master's thesis as well as in from of work groups in schools under the supervision of teacher candidates. The planned studies will be mainly performed in the area of the river Lahn and its tributaries that were selected based on their climatic, geographical and environmental characteristics. This ensures good accessibility for students and an intensive academic support.
