Language requirements

You do not have to submit a language certificate in German nor in English. However, we recommend language level B1, as the lectures are held in German and sometimes in English. Some of the language courses in preparation for academic studies already take place a few weeks before the start of lectures others can be taken during the semester. Detailed information on the dates and language levels of the intensive courses can be found on the website of the International Office and on the website of the Forum Languages & Cultures. Please inform yourself about the course offers as early as possible, as the registration for some courses already takes place a few weeks before the start of lectures.

Academic calendar

Lectures in the winter semester begin in mid-October, lectures in the summer semester in mid-April. The exact dates can be found in the academic calendar .

Introductory event

In the week before the beginning of the semester, an introductory event for the new students takes place every semester. In this introductory event your timetables will be drawn up and questions about the courses and events will be clarified. In addition, there will be a short tour of the campus to help you find your way around. It is therefore advisable to be in Giessen one week before the start of the lecture period . You will receive an E-Mail with the exact date of the event some weeks before the start of the semester.

Exams and other examinations

After the end of the lecture period , the exams and possibly further examinations will take place. Please take this into account when planning your stay. You will find out the exact examination dates in the first week of lectures.
