Alex Felicitas and Lina Martha H. are two interdisciplinary, performative artists currently on Erasmus study at the Dartington College of Art. From Canada and Germany, respectively, the two artists use the UK as a converging point between their practices, as an exploration into new communities and potential for performative works. Sharing a mutual interest in their position as "outsiders" Dec.10 >> Its this now is a response to the challenge of relevance, contribution, and documentation of a space and history which is so distant from their own.

Dec. 10.>> Its this now poses as a temporary archive centre, whose drawers and folders begin blank. Unwritten. The two artists have taken on the role of Archivists who operate as mercantile medians between the moving and fluid world, and a past-world: a history only evident through snapshots of text, image, material. Patrons, fellow merchants, passersby etc are invited to partake in the project at the cost of a simple trade: a tangible place in this historical snapshot in exchange for their own personal contribution to the archive itself. This may take the form of a photograph, audio recording, interview, drawing and so on.

What happens if you let speak the body about something else, which you can’t solely describe with linguistic terms and statements? The project „La coquille“ would like to have a closer look at a body/ language or the body as „the Other“ of language. According to the textual basis of Elfriede Jelineks "er nicht als er" we would like to draw together with one performer Ludger Lamers the choreographic attention to the gaps and interspaces of the body. Key aspects of the work lay in the question of how parts of the body – if you understand them as a set of actions – can be seen as different typs of multidimensional branchings of an organism? Furthermore, how could the performer as a self-affirming and self-constitutive subject take thereby center stage in the choreographic process?

When I arrived in Huesca in March 2010, i had just started to read the first volume of Abdalrachman Munif's "Cities of salt" quintet. "El desierto" is set in an unnamed Arab state of the Gulf. The story chronicles the transformation of a traditional desert society following the discovery of oil. I enjoyed reading the book during the first two weeks of my stay.

WADI AL-UYOUN: AN OUTPOURING OF GREEN amid the harsh, obdurate desert, as if it had burst from within the earth or fallen from the sky. It was nothing like its surroundings, or rather had no connection with them, dazzling you with curiosity and wonder: how had water and greenery burst out in a place like this? But the wonder vanished gradually, giving way to a mysterious respect and contemplation. It was one of these rare cases of nature expressing its genius and willfulness, in defiance of any explanation. (Begin of El desierto)

In the third week of my stay I heard for the first time about Los Monegros and the Gran Scala project, while i was starting to explore the surroundings of the city of Huesca.

LARGE SCALE is a 15-channel videoinstallation, that depicts the inhabited area where International Leisure Development (ILD) with the full support of the local government is planning to construct a destination city of leisure for all ages, that consists of 32 hotel casinos, five (5) major theme parks, a conference center, several other hotels, hundreds of retail shops, restaurants, a golf course, a horse race track, an opera, museums, and residential development (www.granscala.com). All images are captured with pre-programmed computer-controlled moving cameras in May 2010, just a few months before the construction works are supposed to start. The installation is accompanied by the Song Of The Great Promise (Music by René Rothert).

"Others" examines concepts gathered around the notion of the Other (Andere, Fremde) with regard to individual and collective body. It raises questions about the way on which we perceive the other, define him and ultimately differentiate him from myself. Through the abstract historical reflection and the body of performer the piece also deals with the notion of space and division, as well as the wall as a fundamental material which defines the border between me and the other.
