How Did Gladiators Fight? A Journey to the Roman Amphitheatre

Gladiators were the "superstars" of Roman antiquity and continue to captivate audiences today, appearing in films and comics such as "Asterix the Gladiator." But how do we know what these individuals' lives and combat experiences were like over 2000 years ago? This is one of the questions addressed by classical archaeology. To explore this, we utilize methods from experimental archaeology to conduct practical research into Roman gladiatorial life. By examining archaeological sources, we aim to reconstruct the manner in which gladiators fought in the arena. During this event, students were introduced to the techniques of experimental archaeology and witnessed a practical demonstration of a "real" gladiator fight.

Here you can find photos from our arena with the exciting fight of Leonidas and Lyssa.
