The Colombian peace process has made significant progress in the last four years, but it still faces enormous challenges and is at the centre of controversy. This project designed to stabilise the Colombian peace process by promoting justice, truth and human rights focuses on the scientific analysis of transitional justice measures in Colombia.

A central aspect of this cooperation is the transfer of scientific/academic knowledge to multipliers in politics, the media, education and civil society. It also supports collaboration with exiled victims of the internal armed conflict in Germany and promotes the discussion of the results of the peace process outside of Colombia.

Both South Africa and Colombia are facing challenging transition processes following the end of the apartheid regime in the former and the signing of the peace agreement with the FARC guerrillas in the latter. On the one hand, they have to deal with reconciliation with past crimes; on the other hand, social reconciliation processes and the creation of socially inclusive and sustainable development are major and complex tasks.

The major political issues of the future, such as peace, social justice and ecological sustainability, play a central role in the international development policy agenda set out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Partnership-based curriculum development, academic exchange and wide-ranging discussions with the public are planned within the framework of the project.

Iraq is a country that has been ravaged by a multitude of wars and conflicts in an unstable region. The University of Duhok, in the relatively stable northern Iraq (Kurdistan), has pioneered the institutionalisation of peace and conflict research in Iraq. However, due to the difficult local situation, international collaboration has proved challenging. This is where the project comes in, pursuing international cooperation in the field of peace and conflict research, in order to lay the foundations for scientific/academic analysis of the causes and dynamics of the current conflicts in Iraq.

The project includes a delegation of alumni and other parties from science, political education, civil society and indigenous communities working in Germany for a science-practice dialogue on the issue of "Political Education for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future in Latin America". The focus is on the three future, 21st century challenges: social and economic development, the ecological question, and peace and democracy.

Latin America is of particular relevance to all three thematic blocks. The region also has great potential to positively influence the progress towards meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But this requires policy reforms that promote development. Their legitimacy and social acceptance is only granted if all social groups are involved in a broad and democratic discussion on the SDGs and possible ways to meet the global targets.

The project offers an exchange on the structures, dynamics and controversies of civic education and the SDGs with a focus on the Andean area of South America. The project's target countries are Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.

Protecting its ecosystems is crucial in the global fight against climate change, which is why ColombiaCONNECT strives to establish an interdisciplinary network of Colombian-German cooperation that connects the fields of biodiversity research, bioeconomy and peacebuilding.

The SDG ^nexus Network is a global community of universities, research centers, and stakeholders committed to promoting the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The SDG ^nexus Network is a part of the DAAD “Higher Education Excellence in Development Cooperation – exceed ” program and, as such, it aims to strengthen higher education for enabling effective and innovative contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

The SDG ^nexus Network has three main objectives:

• Establish common r esearch framework through joint research projects between our network partners.
• Qualify the next generation of scientists as agents of change .

The project is designed to continue the monitoring and feedback on gender mainstreaming in the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition (CEV) in the Caribbean region. This mainstreaming began with a project coordinated Universidad de los Andes in 2018 and was subsequently strengthened with a grant from CAPAZ in 2019. The project implemented with the CAPAZ grant focused on Montes de María, a sub-region of the Colombian Caribbean.

It is also intended to contribute specialised knowledge based on which to draft recommendations to be included in the Commission's final report that guarantee the non-repetition of violence against women from an intersectional approach. This must also include the creation of a roadmap to ensure that these recommendations are implemented and enforceable.

By analysing recommendations from other Truth Commissions and their level of implementation, and formulating recommendations to the final report of the Truth Commission in Colombia, the policy paper will provide an understanding of the specific affectations that women have experienced in the Colombian armed conflict and the particularities involved in the process of non-repetition.
