Gustav-Krüger-Saal, JLU Hauptgebäude
As part of the Political Theory Colloquium and the GGS section “Human Rights and Democracy”, a double lecture with two international guest speakers will take place next week. We are pleased to welcome Francisco Cortés Rodas from our partner university in Medellín, who will speak on current developments and questions of democracy in Latin America under the title “Democracies under Siege: The rise of new Authoritarianism in Latin America”.
Afterwards, Petar Bojanic, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Rijeka and Principal Investigator at the Belgrade Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, will speak on “Moments of the Negative” and offer a philosophical perspective on crises of cooperation and social coexistence in the face of nihilistic tendencies. The effects of forms of the negative on the legitimacy and construction of social groups will be examined.
Both lectures are open to interested colleagues and students (and can also be attended individually). If you are interested, please register with Hannes Kaufmann (Hannes.s.kaufmann@sowi.uni-giessen.de) - we will then be happy to send you short preparatory readings that both guest speakers have provided us with (and the online link, if requested).
