W2 Professorship in Animal Disease Control and Zoonoses
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a
W2 Professorship in Animal Disease Control and Zoonoses
as of April 1st, 2025. Reference is made to § 67 Para. 7 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) and to the conditions of employment based on § 68 HessHG. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for representing the full breadth of the field of animal disease control and zoonoses in research, teaching and (laboratory diagnostic) services.
Your research activities will focus on infections in animals caused by bacteria or fungi, including zoonoses. Your research should be related to the area of potential of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) “infections, inflammations and active ingredients” and/or to the accent areas of the faculty “reproduction”, “repair and regeneration” as well as “experimental and applied neurosciences”. Your participation in research networks of the Research Campus of Central Hessen (FCMH) and other interdisciplinary co-operations are expected. It is conceivable and desirable to work on issues in the field of One Health and/or Public Health.
The teaching area comprises the courses intended for the field of Animal Disease Control and Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the Veterinary Licensing Ordinance (TAppV) and in the study regulations of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Management. You are also expected to contribute to the interdisciplinary graduate training at the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL) and to the joint Ph.D. program of the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Medicine with courses and research projects. The integration of gender aspects in research and teaching is explicitly desired.
Requirements:
Prerequisites for the position include a degree in veterinary medicine, an excellent and relevant doctoral degree, additional academic achievements (proven e.g. by habilitation or in form of relevant peer-reviewed publications) as well as a special pedagogical aptitude. An international recognised research profile in Animal Disease Control and Zoonoses is required. Experience in the independent acquisition of external funding should be demonstrated. Through its international relations with researchers (m/f/d) within and outside Europe, the professorship is intended to strengthen the international network of the faculty and the JLU. Your willingness to participate in the implementation and further development of the laboratory diagnostic services of the Institute of Hygiene and Infectious Diseases of Animals is required. Recognition as a veterinary specialist, preferably in the field of microbiology, or a relevant Diplomate of the European College is desirable.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
The JLU aims to employ more women in academic research. We therefore particularly encourage female candidates to apply. JLU also pursues the goal at faculty leadership level of increased competence in dealing with gender and family-related issues. JLU is regarded as a family-friendly university. Applicants with children are very welcome. Applications from disabled people of equal aptitude will be given preference.
We strongly recommend candidates to refer to our fact sheet on application procedures and to the application procedures of the faculty.
Please send your application with the required documents via online form to the President of Justus Liebig University Giessen by January 15th, 2025, quoting the reference number 0-17/24.
