W1 Professorship (with W2 tenure track) in
Basic Sciences in Veterinary Internal Medicine of Small Animals
The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years pursuant to § 70 Para. 3 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG). According to § 70 Para. 3 HessHG, applicants (m/f/d) should have gained a doctoral degree at an institution of higher education other than Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) or have been in academic employment at an institution other than JLU for at least two years after conferral of a doctoral degree. The duration of applicants’ scientific activity during and after completion of the doctoral degree should not exceed nine years or the duration of activity after the doctorate should not exceed four years. In the case of successful completion of the six-year W1 position, which is to be assessed in an evaluation procedure pursuant to § 70 Para. 2 HessHG, the appointment will be converted into a permanent W2 professorship. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Duties:
You will be expected to represent the specialist field in the area of small animal internal medicine, e.g. laboratory diagnostics, dietetics, immunology, metabolic diseases and/or endocrinology, together with the other professorships at the Clinic for Small Animal in research and teaching. Your teaching activities include the field of small animal internal medicine in accordance with the TAppV and the study regulations of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Your duties include planning and implementation of self-initiated individual and collaborative research as well as participation in graduate training within the framework of the Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL). You should be actively involved in the further profile building of the faculty with its scientific networks and participate in the national and international cooperation of the faculty. During your work at JLU, successful independent acquisition of external funding and commitment to externally funded collaborative projects are expected.
Requirements:
Prerequisites for the position include a university degree, preferably in veterinary medicine including a veterinary license to practice medicine, a relevant outstanding doctoral degree as well as a special pedagogic aptitude.
In-depth knowledge in the fields of metabolic diseases, immunology, laboratory diagnostics, dietetics and/or endocrinology (e.g. in the areas of fat, protein or carbohydrate metabolism, hormones, liver or kidney function, tumor markers, immunological test procedures) as well as basic experience in the field of clinical research are also required.
The willingness to engage in scientific cooperation within the JLU is required, as are well-founded, preferably international publications in recognized journals.
Initial experience in the successful acquisition of external funding and the integration of gender aspects in research and teaching are desirable.
In case the candidate exceeds the basic age limit of 50 years, a civil servant appointment under § 66 Para. 3 sentences 2 and 3 Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) in conjunction with § 11 Hessian Career Regulation (HLVO) requires a specific functional interest.
