Content
In this lecture, the participants will be introduced to some aspects of the concept of identity, which introduce identity as a social phenomenon and process rather than a fixed, rigid fact. The ideas of some psychosocial theorists such as G. H. Mead (symbolic interactionism), Erik H. Erikson (psychosocial development), and Erving Goffman (symbolic interaction) as well as the theories of more recent figures such as Homi Bhabha (hybrid Identities) and Stuart Hall will be discussed. At the end of the session, I will look at the contributions of these theories in approaching the issue of (forced)migration. I will talk about the social potentials of the issue of migration and their relation with identity-related concepts. In this regard, some characteristics of post-migration societies will be discussed.
