Guidelines for the submission of abstracts

Submission

  • All doctoral candidates of the GGL are expected to prepare one abstract for the 17th GGL Annual Conference.
  • Please use the following website to submit your abstract:

The grace period for the late submission or correction of abstracts is 15 July 2024.

  • In order to submit your abstract, you must register first (in the abstract portal, upper right hand corner). As a second step you will be able to submit your abstract.
  • Please submit your abstracts online only. Abstracts submitted via other methods will not be accepted.
  • The conference language is English.

 

Duties of the submitting person

  • Ensure that the entire contents of the abstract you submit are the sole work of the author or authors credited.
  • Ensure that all authors credited for your abstract are aware of their name being used and are in agreement with it being used in this manner.
  • Ensure that the abstract submitted may be openly published (Scientific Programme, Book of Abstracts) and may be used in the planning of this conference.
  • Ensure correct spelling, grammar, etc. of your submitted text.

 

 Poster or talk?

  • Please indicate whether you wish to present a poster or talk. Based on your self-nomination, the GGL will discuss with your section speaker which doctoral speakers will present and notify you afterwards.

 

Content

  • Please keep in mind that you will present to listeners who come from many different disciplines and might not be aware of the conventions within your own field of research.
  • Please find a short and interesting title and avoid abbreviations. The title does not need to circumscribe the whole content of your doctoral project. Please do not use upper case letters for entering the title.
  • Please phrase your abstract clearly and unambiguously, and structure it according to the research question, the objective, the methods used, the principal results and the conclusion.
  • Do not enter sub headings such as methods, results, etc.
  • Uncommon abbreviations should be avoided. If essential, they must be defined at their first mention in the abstract.
  • Abstract content is limited to a maximum of 2,500 characters (including spaces).
  • For all of your writing, please use British spelling. For a quick reference on the differences between British and American spelling, please see this article from the Oxford Dictionary.

 

Formatting

  • We advise you to prepare the abstract as a Word document first, and then copy and paste.
  • After entering your text, you will be able to format words as italics, subscripts or superscripts.
  • Avoid bulleted or numbered lists.
  • Please refrain from any further formatting of your abstracts. We cannot guarantee that abstracts will be formatted in the exact way as they are entered.

 

Authors

  • The list of authors should start with the presenting author, followed by the co-authors. Usually your first supervisor should be the last author listed.
  • All authors listed in the abstract must approve it before it is submitted.
  • Please refrain from adding any honorary authors, i.e. authors who did not make an substantial contribution.
  • We recommend to first enter all authors in the correct order and then add and edit the affiliations.

 

Affiliation

  • Please make sure that you enter the name of your institute in English (including those in Giessen).
  • If there is more than one institution, please make sure to assign the correct affiliation(s) for each author.
  • In the field “Department /Institute” please always enter the the sub-unit first and the the larger unit seperated by comma. For example: “Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine".
  • If several authors share an affiliation, you can use the function "Assign Affiliation" to assign an affiliation that you have already entered.

 

Corrections?

  • After saving your abstract, you can still edit and change your abstract using the "prev" and "next" buttons.
  • In that way you can also adjust authors and affiliations.

 

NO References

  • Your abstract should be a brief summary of your work in your own words.

 

Help

  • The GGL abstract portal has been newly programmed for the 2024 abstract submission. We have tested it before opening it, but if there are technical difficulties please let us know by writing to office(at)ggl.uni-giessen.de.
