A1: Determination of the tumorigenic potential of bronchioalveolar stem cells (BASCs) in lung cancer (Prof. Braun, Dr. Salwig)
Subproject A1 investigates bronchioalveolar stem cells (BASCs), which exhibit high plasticity and can regenerate both bronchiolar and alveolar epithelial cells as required. With the help of an innovative “split-effector” method for the visualization and targeted modification of BASCs, we are investigating whether BASCs serve as cells of origin for lung tumors and are responsible for tumor stem cells (T-BASCS) that are responsible for tumor resistance.
