Perspectives on the Lung

What we have learnt – and where do we go?

“Perspectives on the Lung” is a scientific symposium held within the framework of the University of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center (UGMLC) School.

It is the educational aim of this symposium to provide a forum for the discussion of the state of the art of lung research today, and to highlight the directions that lung research should take in near and long-term future.

This symposium consists of a series of lectures by invited speakers, drawn from all over the world, including in-house faculty which addresses the central theme of the symposium. The keynote address will be provided by Dr Susan Shurin, currently the Director of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health of the United States of America. Additionally, Dr Patricia W. Finn, President-Elect of the American Thoracic Society, and Dr Klaus F. Rabe, President of the European Respiratory Society, will communicate their views about where they feel lung research should be focused. These discussion will be supported by lectures from leaders in their respective fields, representing various aspects of lung biology, pulmonary medicine, and regenerative medicine. This symposium has a limited capacity of 85 participants. Therefore, pre-registration is required. Requests for information, and registration (all by email), should be directed to the UGMLC administration office, at the following email address:
