Teaching
The Department of Insect Biotechnology in Plant Protection offers courses for undergraduate and graduate students in different disciplines, such as Plant Protection, Insect Biotechnology, and Molecular Biology. Different knowledge and insights on pests and pathogens are taught, as well as topics such as crop protection and agroecology.
Bachelor and Master theses are based on the module topics and current research topics in the group. Interested students can contact our lecturers any time during lectures or via email to discuss the possible thesis.
As part of our postgraduate education, we are involved in the International Giessen Graduate Center for the Life Sciences (GGL). Prof. Schetelig is leading Section 7 'Bioresources, Bioinformatics, and Biotechnology', and within this Ph.D. education of the GGL, we offer several events and soft-skill courses that are particularly tailored to doctoral students, but also postdocs at the JLU Gießen.
Study programs within the Department
Since 2017 we are offering the international Master Study program "Insect Biotechnology & Bioresources" (coordinated by PD Dr. Thomas Degenkolb, Prof. Schäberle & Prof. Schetelig) and since 2020 the Bachelor Study program "Nachwachsende Rohstoffe & Bioressourcen" (coordinated by Prof. Schetelig).
