Research Interests
I am a life-long insect enthusiast with a special fondness for insect diversity and ecological interactions, both at the population and at a more mechanistic level. My background includes elements of population ecology and population genetics, and the current focus of my work is on the various strategies employed by plant-feeding insects to overcome the potential toxicity of their host plants.
I would like to put this work into an ecological and evolutionary context by comparing relevant taxa, populations and host plants using a variety of approaches, including chemical analyses and assessment of population relationships and dynamics.
I am currently beginning to investigate guilds of closely related Noctuid moths which exhibit both aposematism and camouflage while feeding on the same plant. I am also interested in other taxa such as Lygaeinae bugs for future, more population-based, approaches.
