Siyu Li is a PhD candidate at the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) and the Department of Consumer Research, Communication and Food Sociology at Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. She completed her master's degree in cultural anthropology at Eötvös Loránd University, also she studied global art and curatorial practice at the Tokyo University of the Arts as a research student.

Her doctoral research is about the shelf life and microbiopolitics. This research will analyze the regulation policy and conduct fieldwork from the food operator to public organizations, and then to individual kitchen practices. It involves multi-site and -species ethnography. Microbes emerge as a semiotic biological code in food regulation, representing a distinct language employed to implement a range of safety systems and knowledge practices. How to sense them, how to understand them, how to translate them across the discipline, how to eventually tell the story is her passion.
