Schwerpunkte in Forschung und Lehre

As a crop protection researcher, my current interest research is on fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and striga weed management in maize production in Rwanda using Push pull technology. Push-pull technology is an intercropping strategy for controlling agricultural pests using repellent "push" plants and trap "pull" plants.

I have started to conduct the PhD study that aims to examine the effects of companion plant density such as Desmodium and Crotalaria, both used as repellent plants in the Push-Pull technology for the control of Fall armyworm and Striga weed in maize production. Furthermore, to assess the contribution of Push pull technology in attracting natural enemies, the investigation will be undertaken to study the diversity and abundance of parasitoids, insect predators of fall armyworms, and other agricultural beneficial arthropods that will be available in the experimental sites.
