Phytochrome signal transduction, cellular signalling
Light is not only the energy source for plants but also an important signal in regulating development. One of several plant photoreceptors is the red/far red light switchable chromoprotein phytochrome, whose function is the main focus of research in the Dept. of Plant Physiology. My group works on the mechanism by which seedlings detect light when they emerge from the darkness of soil and adapt for photoauxotrophic growth in daylight.
How they transduce the signal detected by phytochrome and the mechanism by which this signal leads to functional and morphological changes in the plant are the core of current research in my lab.

GFP tagged proteins are used to trace protein localization and translocation during development.
