Paper Presentation at ECPR General Conference 2018 in Hamburg
From August 22 to 25, the TANNRE team attended the ECPR General Conference in Hamburg. As part of the panel “Normative Divides in Post-Exceptionalist Agri-Food Governance“, the project presented its first conference paper.
The 2018 ECPR Gereral Conference, which is the largest gathering of political scientists in Europe, took place at Universität Hamburg. More than 500 panels across 68 sections covered a wide range of topics in political science.
The section “Contested Boundaries in Food and Agricultural Governance”, chaired by Gerard Breeman (Universiteit Leiden) and Jessica Duncan (Wageningen University and Research Center), aimed at the critical analysis of the boundaries in agri-food governance. The TANNRE paper was part of the panel “Normative Divides in Post-Exceptionalist Agri-Food Governance“, organized by Prof. Dr. Peter Feindt (Humboldt University of Berlin) and Sandra Schwindenhammer (Justus Liebig University Giessen). The concept of policy post-exceptionalism was proposed by Prof. Dr. Carsten Daugberg and Prof. Dr. Peter H. Feindt in 2017. Post-exceptionalism in the agri-food policy sector implies a partial transformation, in which old and new ideas, institutions, interests and policy instruments coexist. This leads to contestation over norms and ideas at different regulatory levels.
Research assistant Magdalena Tanzer presented the TANNRE paper entitled “Global Food Governance and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Comparing Norm Interpretation and Prioritization of International Organizations”. The paper aims to plausibilize conflicting norm understandings of the core organizations (FAO, UNEP, WHO, WTO) of the global regime complex for food.
The panel furthermore included contributions by Prof. Dr. Arild Aurvåg Farsund (University of Stavanger) and Prof. Dr. Frode Veggeland (University of Oslo); Dr. Colette Vogeler and Malte Möck (both TU Braunschweig); and Juila Dennis and Dr. Peter Feindt (both Humboldt University of Berlin). The papers were discussed by Prof. Dr. Carsten Daugbjerg (University of Copenhagen).
