Welcome to the Genetics of Crop Diversity department!

Focus

Our research and teaching is focussed on the genetics of climatic adaptation, especially within the context of climate change. We work mainly on protein crops with complex genomes like oilseed rape and faba bean. We want to identify heritable components linked to yield and yield stability under different stress scenarios which can used for breeding. We are specifically interested in regulatory patterns of gene expression in stress-responsive genes as well as the influence of structural variation. Our main research questions are:

- can we identify specific or general protective factors or strategies against different stress factors and scenarios able to stabilize yield under these conditions?

- which genetic or epigenetic variation is underlying those protective factors?

- how could these variations arise or created?

Our department is part of the International Research Graduate School IRTG 2843  "Accelerating Crop Genetic Gain", a joint project of JLU with the University of Queensland in Australia.
