Master Thesis (WS/SS)

Master Thesis in the field of Technology, Innovation and Start-up Management

Our Master's degree module offers you the opportunity to flexibly shape your academic and professional path while deepening your skills in one of two options:

1. Business Plan for a Startup Idea:

  • This option allows you to immerse yourself in the world of entrepreneurship. You will create a business plan for your own startup idea, which not only contributes to thoroughly conceptualizing and structuring your entrepreneurial concept but also provides valuable insights into strategic planning and business model development.
  • Benefits: Practical experience in creating a business plan, the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial skills, and the chance to turn your idea into reality.
  • Please note that a brief exposé of the startup idea must be submitted to the department no later than one week before the kickoff. The exposé should include the problem statement (or desired outcome), the solution (product or service), the target audience, and the current competitive landscape.

2. Research Work on Technology, Innovation, or Entrepreneurship:

  • This option gives you the space to satisfy your curiosity and scientific interests. You will compose a comprehensive research paper on exciting topics such as technology, innovation, or entrepreneurship. This work enables you to delve deep into the world of research, explore current trends, and gain valuable insights in a dynamic and future-oriented field.
  • Benefits: Enhancement of your research skills, the opportunity to explore contemporary subjects, and insights into the research world.
  • Additional Advantage: Submitting your work to a journal will enhance your academic reputation and when successful provide a valuable reference for future professional challenges.
  • Please Consider when Choosing a Topic: Each student can submit preferences from a list of available master's thesis topics.

Alternatively, it is possible to propose your own topic for the master thesis. After central registration on Stud.IP, students can submit a research proposal to Prof. Dr. Monika Schuhmacher (monika.schuhmacher@wirtschaft.uni-giessen.de) by no later than two weeks before the kickoff. The proposal should include the research title, research question, research gap (based on existing literature), as well as initial ideas regarding the conceptual model and planned empirical work. The submitted proposals will be taken into account when determining the topics by the department. However, submitting a proposal does not guarantee that you will work on that topic as part of your master's thesis.

Our Recommendation: Attend our main seminar before the master thesis module. This provides you with the opportunity to either develop an idea paper or submit a research proposal for further pursuit in your thesis.

In conclusion, here you can achieve your academic and professional goals in diverse ways, taking your skills and experiences to a higher level. Whichever option you choose, you will benefit from a challenging and enriching learning experience.

Master Thesis at the Department BWL X.

If you have been selected to write your master's thesis at our chair, you will receive a list of all potential topics during the kickoff event. After that, you will have the opportunity to rank the topics according to your preference. Our chair team will try to take these preferences into account as best as possible when assigning topics.

We recommend writing the master's thesis at the chair where the seminar paper was written, as this allows for early involvement in the respective research and project work of the chair.
